Armless Sheetal Devi Becomes Para Archery World Champion




Breaking Barriers in Para Archery



In a historic moment for Indian sports, 18-year-old Sheetal Devi, born without arms, has etched her name in the annals of archery history by winning the women’s compound individual gold at the World Para Archery Championships in Gwangju, South Korea. Her victory not only crowns her as the new world champion but also stands as a symbol of grit, perseverance, and unshakable determination.



A Triumph Against All Odds



Sheetal Devi’s journey to the top has been nothing short of inspirational. Hailing from Jammu and Kashmir, she overcame immense personal and logistical challenges to train and compete at the highest level. Using her feet and shoulders to shoot with remarkable precision, Sheetal has consistently stunned audiences and competitors alike with her technique.


At the World Championships, she defeated Oznur Cure Girdi of Turkey in a thrilling final, scoring 146-143 to secure the coveted gold medal. This win makes her one of the very first armless female archers to become a world champion.



A Multi-Medal Haul



Sheetal’s success didn’t stop at the individual title. She also added a bronze in the mixed team event and a silver in the women’s open team event to her tally, cementing her position as one of the brightest stars in para archery. Her consistent performance has been instrumental in elevating India’s status in the sport on the global stage.
